Sweep through the heavy curtain surrounding the door, and you’re transported to old world Spain, doused in the charm of an Andalucían bistro. Moro has it all: huge, rustic chunks of sourdough bread, served warm from a wicker basket; weird and wonderful tapas available at the bar; and a wine list to impress the most refined of connoisseurs.
The menu is consistently remarkable. Moro boasts a fusion of traditional Moorish ingredients with modern touches, ranging from slow-cooked kid to wood-roasted seabass, hearty meat broth and vegetable mezze. The helpful staff never tire of explaining what everything on the menu means, and if you feel like trying something adventurous, go for the buttifarra, mojama and grilled leek salad, or Andalucían puchero.
Lunch time is jam-packed with suited and booted city types, so book a table in advance if you want a seat – although the few outside tables will be prime people-watching territory in the summer. It’s the great location and other-worldly allure that make Moro so popular – and while it’s a pricey spot, you’ll leave feeling like you got more than you paid for.
From its stripped wooden floors and misshapen tables and chairs, to the long bar offering standing room only, while you sip sweet sherry and nibble slices of jamón, Moro promises a taste of Spain that will make you want to pack your bags and set sail for the sun.
