Twilight superfans had an unexpected treat when Robert Pattinson made a surprise appearance at an Islington gig.robert-pattinson

Fans of the film series turned up in force to the Garage, Highbury just to see the composer of the soundtrack, Bobby Johnson, performing. But after the gig, the film’s main star arrived unannounced to party with friends.

Katie Harris, 29, who writes a vampire blog, was having a cigarette outside the club after the gig last Wednesday night when she spotted the star arriving.

“I was so overwhelmed when I saw him that I nearly didn’t say anything. I had to do a double-take because I did not have a clue that he would be there,” she said.

“As he walked past I said hello to him and we had a short chat. He asked if we were cold and then let us take pictures with him before he went inside.

Katie, who has been a fan of Pattinson since he starred in the Harry Potter films, says she does not regret not asking the star on a date.

“I was not tempted to ask him out, I was quite happy with a short conversation. I don’t just love him because he is good-looking, he is a really good actor.”

Charlotte Ellis, another fan, said once inside the club, Pattinson chatted with fans for an hour before leaving.

The student, who has attended Twilight conventions, said: “The weekend before the gig, Robert and his friend Tom Sturridge went to America so he could promote his new film, ‘Remember Me’, so we didn’t think he would travel back to London just two days later.

“However, we still went to the gig because I’m a fan of the main band. At the end of the gig, when we were just about to leave, I saw Tom Sturridge so I knew Robert must be there too.

“We asked him if we could quickly get some photos with him and then he looked down at the floor by his feet covered in spilt drink and said ‘I think I’ve wet myself.’ He was pretty drunk.”

She added: “It took a while for it to hit me. It wasn’t until we were in the taxi that we started screaming and getting giddy. We’re all so glad we finally got to meet Robert as we camped out all night for the Baftas, but he did not come over to where we were standing.”
