A CLOCK at the heart of Angel that has not been working properly for two years might finally catch up with time.clockThe clock on the tower of the Angel Square building above Angel tube station has been confusing shoppers and workers with the wrong time since 2008. The building managers say they are finally calling on the services of a specialist clock expert, who will hopefully be able to fix the prominent clock at the heart of Islington.

Sunny Aslam, who works in takeaway Chicken Cottage opposite the clock, said that people do not bother looking at the clock anymore.

“It has not had the right time since we opened the shop two years ago. People now ignore it because everyone knows it is broken. It is a good job most people have watches,” he said.

“Confusing”

Jan Laffan, a student at City and Islington College, said he finds the clock baffling when he is on his lunch break in the area. “It is pretty confusing,” he said.

A spokesman for the building managers at Angel Square, home to clients including the Home Office, said they are working to get the clock fixed.

“Our own technicians have been trying to mend the clock, but we cannot find what is wrong with it, we think it is something to do with the electrics,” he explained. “We are now hoping to get a specialist down from Nottingham as soon as possible to fix it.”

The clock is not the only prominent timepiece that does not work in the borough. The red and gold Victorian clock on Highbury Hill has stood still at 21 minutes past nine for decades. There are no plans to get that landmark clock working again.
