Count the calories on the bonkometer

sarah-news-sexometer-2Ever wondered how many calories you burn while having sex? Thanks to one Islington resident and her lazy boyfriend, there’s now an easy way to find out: the Bedometer, an iPhone app that will make boring workouts a thing of the past.

Invented by local accounts executive Livvy Thompson, 25, who lives off Essex Road, the Bedometer promises to help users tone up by measuring the amount of sexercise done while the timer is running.

The app, which can be downloaded for just 59p, counts the number of calories burned during sex, as well as the number of thrusts and the hours, minutes and seconds spent getting hot and sweaty.

“Basically my boyfriend would not get motivated at all to go to the gym – I think he had got into that rut of having a girlfriend being comfy and eating too much,” said Ms Thompson. “The only thing that he seemed to enjoy that was in any way athletic was having sex.”

“The results have been amazing. My boyfriend can’t get enough of it. Our initial tests show that a vigorous workout for 15 minutes burns almost 200 calories each.”

The Bedometer works by placing the iPhone face up on a bed – or other chosen exercise area – and starting and stopping the timer accordingly. It has a built in ‘accelerometer’ which detects motion and measures the intensity of users’ exercise.

The app has both single and multiplayer modes.

It can also be connected to Facebook so users can share their sexy workout results with friends.

App developer Neil Metson, who turned Ms Thompson’s idea into a workable download, said he was impressed with people’s reaction to the Bedometer.

“I laughed when the idea was first pitched to me, but I thought it could really work as a lot of the successful apps on the app store are very gimmicky and the Bedometer definitely falls into that category,” he said.

“There have been some very funny articles and reviews of it on the web. One blog in particular, targeted at tech geeks, wrote about how only a very small percentage of people who download it will ever actually get to use the ‘multiplayer’ option, which I found very funny.

“At first I thought it was a typical lads’ app, something you’d show to your mates and have a laugh, post to Facebook and show off,” Mr Metson added. “But I’ve had a lot of response from women who are genuinely intrigued at just how many calories you can burn during sex.”

Guaranteeing to ‘get you slim in your own sexy gym’, the Bedometer has taken the gizmo world by storm since its launch last week, featuring on television across Europe and the US.

It is currently the second most popular download in the iPhone App Store’s Health and Fitness category.

Other sexy iPhone apps include Passion, which gives users a sex rating out of 10, and the iBrate, which turns your mobile phone into a vibrator.
