An old bomb factory will be soon renovate and converted into a theatre in Junction Ward.

The ex Academy of the Science of Acting and Directing, Elthorne road, now called Kogan Academy of Dramatic Arts due to a new partnership with the Kingston University London, will build a 350-seat theatre for artistic purposes.

During the General Meeting of the new Kogan Academy of Drammatic Arts, the Office Manager Dennis McGeown explained that the Academy has different projects already approved for the 5,000 square foot space, such as a bar and community spaces.

The Islington Council, represented at the meeting by the Councillor Kaya Schwartz, will also participate in the transformation of the factory which will cost around £50,000. “Now that we received the official permission to use the building, as Academy we will start a crowdfunding campaign in the first week November” said Neil Sheffield, Kogan Academy director.

Several artistic directors, as Michael Attenborough of Almeida Theatre were at the meeting to visit the old factory. They were impressed by the building that could really be “an art magnet for London” as Attenborough said. “Not so many theatres have the possibility to guest so many people outside the West End” claim Mr Sheffield.

In 2014, the Academy will program exhibition and also the Academy professional theatre companies will be invited for shows, workshops and artistic experiment.
