Dear INagony,
I recently ended my relationship with my boyfriend of two years. We
were living together and had bought a darling little moggy, Tsatziki.
My boyfriend has kept the flat, surely I should be able to keep the cat? How can I convince him to let me have it?
Perplexed potential puss-owner, Holloway Road.

Ellie: Aww, I love cats! And I love Tzsatziki! So cute! I guess your relationship was pretty serious, because you decided to live together. If you’re still on speaking terms, negotiate with him – tell him if he gets the flat, you should get the cat. He’ll probably be happy to get it off his hands anyway.
Helly: Do you really want a cat? Seriously? Hairballs, litter tray lumps – urgh. I’d say cut your losses completely – you don’t want anything to do with him anymore, and the cat will just dredge up bad memories. Buy yourself a gerbil instead.
Dear INagony,
I am learning the flute, and occasionally my teacher places his arms
on my shoulders and back in order to improve my posture. Every time he
does it I feel a frisson, a shiver of delight down my spine. The thing
is, he is 42 and recently divorced, and I’m only 19. Should I make a
move?
Frustrated flautist, Finsbury.
Ellie: Ooh, very Black Swan – but we all remember what happened to poor Nathalie Portman, don’t we? It sounds a bit dodgy to me, and the age gap will definitely be a challenge. Are you even sure he’s interested in you?
Helly: I wouldn’t bother. He plays the flute, and he’s getting on a bit… Not hot.
Dear INagony,
My girlfriend refuses to accept my request to be “In a relationship”
on Facebook. Does she not really like me?
Social not-work, Canonbury
Ellie: How long have you been with her, and what do you both want out of the relationship? If she’s going for something casual and you want something more serious, maybe you should reconsider the whole thing. On the other hand, maybe she’s just happy not splashing her personal life all over the Internet and doesn’t give a toss about relationship statuses – and nor should you!
Helly: She doesn’t really like you.
Need a good hot cuppa and a teaspoon of advice?
