A pioneering Barnsbury film has showcased its two decades of work at an Innovate UK event this week.
The Shadow Robot Company specialises in creating robot hands to perform repetitive or dangerous tasks in place of humans.
Rich Walker, 43, is the managing director and one of the founders of the Shadow Robot Company.
He said: “If a robot is going to be useful in the world, it needs to have a human-like ability to manipulate objects.”
“What we’ve been doing for the last year, with Innovate UK funding, is develop software where we could take a 3D picture of something and work out how to hold it.”
The firm is currently working on a hand that can pick strawberries. Mr. Walker said: “The reason for doing that is, nobody wants to pick strawberries … but someone somewhere has to pick them.”
The firm was founded 20 years ago, and now sells the robot hands commercially for between £50,000 and £100,000.
