Islington has warned residents to “prepare for the worst” in anticipation of benefit cuts.
Over 1,000 households in the borough will be affected by cuts due to be implemented in April.
Carers, those on sickness benefit and jobseekers’ weekly payouts will be limited to £350 per week for singles without children and £500 per week for other families.
High private sector rents and the large proportion of single parents on benefits means that Islington residents will be particularly badly affected.
The council is offering services including rent reduction negotiation, housing relocation support and advice on debt and loan sharks.
