Neighbours of an Islington school are fuming that planning permission for a new sports hall was approved despite one councillor branding the design like a “prison camp.”
Councillors and residents met last Thursday to discuss the building work at Hanover Primary School and Nursery in Noel Road – but Islington Council’s planning committee ignored the concerns and gave the go ahead for work to begin.
Councillor Robert Khan, who chaired the committee, said: “I don’t think I recall using that particular phrase although others may have done.
“What certainly is the case is that the committee was not impressed by the design of the development and local residents who objected had a good point in relation to this. However, the committee on balance approved the application because of the benefits to the children of the school in having modernised and improved facilities.”
