Youths on mopeds have targeted Islington in a succession of smartphone thefts this morning.
There were seven reported offences between 7am and 11.15am today.
A spokesperson for Islington Metropolitan Police told Islington Now that at least three of the incidents involved the same moped, so they “definitely appear linked”.
A further two separate calls were received by the police with regards to youths stealing or tampering with parked mopeds. One of the mopeds has been recovered.
Police chased one suspect onto a railway line but later lost him.
All of the incidents took place in Islington or just inside Hackney and Camden.
Islington Met Police have warned residents to be aware of their surroundings.
In May 2015 Islington and Camden launched the initiative Operation Attrition to tackle moped related crime. The project aims to use a combination of deterrence and intervention to combat the problem.
