Sir Ian McKellen headed a selection of Islington’s finest performers in a reading of Homer’s Odyssey in Islington Town Hall on Monday.
The performance was part of a series of events to mark the end of the Greek season at the Almeida Theatre. The Odyssey was read in various locations across London from 9am to 9pm.
Tickets were free and Islington residents queued outside the town hall to hear the story of hero Odysseus’s return home from Troy. Prior to his recital, McKellen joked that Islington residents “would prefer somebody else”.
