The date for this year’s Cally festival, an annual street festival on Caledonian Road, has been set for 2 July, Councillor Paul Convery has announced.
The festival, which has been running since 2012, will once again welcome the local community for a day of music, street markets and interactive floats. Last year, stalls were hosted by the Caledonian Police and Islington Labour, with Islington South and Finsbury MP Emily Thornberry in attendance.
Announcing the date, Convery said: “It’s going to be pretty cold the next few days. So let’s start thinking about summer. The 2023 Cally Festival is scheduled for 2 July. I cannot wait!”
Over the past few years attendances have risen and, in 2022, 10,000 people went along, making it the biggest year for the festival.
Islington Council also announced that community groups and organisations will be able to apply for a grant, which the Cally Festival has benefitted from in recent years.
The scheme offers up to £2,500 in funding for communities and organisations to produce “high quality arts events” in the borough.
The scheme is targeted at funding events where the money will make a “significant difference” with the council encouraging applications from disabled, LGBTQ+ and ethnic minority candidates.
