Caledonian Road’s shop owners will fight it out for a chance at glory in a Christmas competition this year.

Islington Council and the local traders’ association The Cally have announced a storefront decoration contest, with prizes for the top three festive window displays.

Eleni Lasheen, who is the co-leader of The Cally and also launched the scheme, said that they “hope it brings people into the local community”.

“We hope it makes people feel Christmassy and that, however people celebrate this time of year, they can get involved”, Ms Lasheen said on what they hope to achieve with the competition.

“Funding has been cut back so it’s a good way to get business’ involved,” she added.

The winners will be decided by a public vote on 26 November at the Festive Lights Event on Freeling Street.

With prizes still to be announced and time left to decorate the storefront, shoppers are encouraged to pick their favourite and shops have been urged to get involved.

Other highlights of the event include free mince pies for attendees, face painting, a live DJ, and gifts from Santa Claus.
