Cally’s Festive Lights Event will see free mince pies and face painting this Saturday 26th November, alongside the Christmas lights switch on.
The event, accompanied by a live DJ, will also offer free toys donated by the children’s charity ‘The TOY Project’ which recycles unwanted toys and offers them to children.
It will be hosted by Cally Traders Association and Islington Council.
The attractions will run from 1PM to 6PM and the main event will see Islington Mayor, Councillor Troy Gallagher, turn on the festive lights at 4:30PM.
Eleni Lasheen, who helped to organise the event, said that they hope it will ‘bring the community together’ while also giving the community a chance to see some local businesses in action.
The Cally Cross, a community collaboration project, will be presenting an Artivities Showcase which will offer free caricature sketches and a comic creation workshop. There will also be a WAKANDArt exhibition which explores artistic creativity inspired by Afrofuturism and Afro Spiritualism. In addition, there will be a healthy living showcase with free samples of health foods and an Onyeka Afrobeat dance fitness session.
The winner of the Christmas window decoration competition will also be announced, with prizes available for those voted first, second and third.
The event is part of a wider Islington community project to support families during the cost-of-living crisis by offering free family-fun events all over Islington.
