Blunder: Council fails to write the name of its OWN ward correctly

If you thought the council could print the name of its own ward cor­rectly – think again.

Eagle-eyed pen­sioner Bryan Heal­ing, 79, spotted Islington Council’s glaring error on a park sign.

The offend­ing sign on Ms Healing’s Tuf­nell Park Road, reads: “St Georges Green Space” – missing the crucial apostrophe.

The retired journalist, who worked her way up from sec­retary to associate editor for Encounter, a current affairs magazine, said the sign was setting a bad example for young children in the local community.

She went on to help chil­dren learn to read at Mon­tem Primary School, on Hornsey Road, Islington, and also worked at adult literacy classes.

Ms Healing said: “The coun­cil has probably saved some mon­ey without the extra space for the apostrophe.

“They should have quite clear instructions, it’s the sort of thing someone should be paying atten­tion to.”

Ms Healing, who has lived in St George’s for 39 years, said she had seen the same mistake before in some of the council’s correspondence.
