Got £250 to spare and a fondness for the macabre? We’ve got just the thing.
Islington residents now have the opportunity to buy a historic part of the borough – on eBay. A Victorian prison door, allegedly from Pentonville prison, has gone on sale on the popular online auction site.
Richard Wearing, of Abbey Antiques, the company selling the item, said: “It’s the sort of item that creates an interest, but I don’t know who would buy that sort of thing. We’ve never really dealt with prisons before! It’s probably one of the most interesting antiques we’ve sold.”
The antique door is made from pine steel and, at 60kg, weights exactly the same as the average British woman. It’s an online bargain, with 50% off the asking price of £500.
The door dates from the late 19th century, and is 75 inches tall. It even has its own lock, though the current owners do not have the key.
Other eBay oddities auctioned online include a replica storm trooper’s helmet from the Star Wars film, black cat air freshener, the domains sex.info and sex.io and one square foot of land in Scotland.
