Evan Peterson, 24, St. Peter’s
You need to exercise some moderation in your life, Evan. You’re not 18 anymore.
If you love both your girlfriend and hanging out with mates, it shouldn’t be a case of one or the other. You just need to be aware of your limits.
Explain to your girlfriend what she means to you and that she remains a priority – but that you also enjoy your social life. By discussing each other’s concerns, and by explaining that you’ll try to take control of your alcohol consumption, hopefully you’ll see eye-to-eye. Commanding a healthy balance should make everyone else – and therefore you – happy.
If you’re worried your drinking is getting out of hand, perhaps you should consider professional advice. There are a number of local services to help. Camden and Islington Alcohol Advisory Service on Grays Inn Road near King’s Cross offers advice and detox treatments. Call 0207 530 5900 to set up an appointment.
If you or your girlfriend is seriously concerned and your drinking is negatively impacting other areas of your life, don’t put off more sobering help. Your nearest Alcoholics Anonymous is between Angel and King’s Cross at 3-5 Cynthia Street. Call 0207 833 0022 for more information.
Good luck.
