A fleet of vintage 38 buses drove down parts of Islington on Saturday.
The buses trips were part of the London Bus Museum’s Heritage Day on 14 March. Anyone could hop-on for a complimentary ride along the iconic bus route, which has been operating since 1912.
The open platform Routemasters dated from the late 1950’s to 1970’s, featured a real conductor and old-style (free) tickets.
Buses were provided by the museum collection and private owners and ran from 10:00-17:00 between Victoria and Hackney station.
Eager travellers were dropped off at popular Islington spots such as Essex Road, Islington green, Angel station and Sadler’s Wells.
The museum urged customers to “just turn up at a route 38 bus stop and put out your hand”.
The event was the latest in a series of heritage days, which have celebrated other routes such as the number 19 and 418.
