Youths performed to a packed centre last Saturday at Islington Community Theatre’s (ICT) “Outside/In” event.
The headline event at the Platform centre, Finsbury Park, was ‘I’m Actually’, the first original play from the four members of ICT’s Young Associates program.
The scheme aims to support young people aged 18-21 in taking the next step in their life, and involves them working three days a week on ICT projects.
Jen Fidai, one of the Young Associates, explained the concept of their debut work: “So many people are from so many different places.
“It’s about the countries and places that you know are part of your identity but you just have no association with.”
Immediately after their first performance, Ned Glasier, creative director at ICT, was full of praise for the quartet.
He said: “The performance came from them, and that’s special. It’s really important that they gain these skills now, so that they have a really realistic shot of making it.”
