Islington isn’t famous for green spaces; the borough is one of the most heavily built up in London. But there are some gorgeous parks, much loved by dog walkers, sun-seekers and those just looking for a break from all that concrete and brick. Here are some of our favourites:
New River Walk is one of Islington’s most unusual green spaces – a thin strip running along a 17th century aqueduct and through some of the borough’s most beautiful streets. (photo Hywel Davies)
Highbury Fields is one of the borough’s biggest green spaces. On summer weekends it’s crowded with sunbathers, frisbee-throwers and groups of friends having barbecues. (photo Hywel Davies)
Islington Green is small but provides so much needed greenery on busy Upper Street, with hoards of local workers descending on it at lunchtime to eat sandwiches and get out of the office. (photo Hywel Davies)
Paradise Park in Holloway is surely the best named of all Islington’s green spaces. Mostly a large green area much used by dog walkers, it also has tables for playing chess and a big playground. (photo Hywel Davies)
Barnard Park in Barnsbury is just minutes from Chapel Market. It’s another large park by Islington standards, with a huge playground for children. (photo Hywel Davies)
Whichever Islington park you choose, don’t forget to take time to sit and relax! (photo Hywel Davies)
