While most of London was clearing up debris from St Jude’s storm, bemused shoppers on Chapel Market experienced an unexpected snowfall on Monday.
Passers-by discovered their local branch of McDonald’s had been closed for the food giant’s filming of its latest Christmas advert.
A fake snow machine covered Christmas carollers, fir tree stalls and several extras walking in continuous loops.
A member of the crew explained to shoppers that the branch was closed all day. “Not that McDonald’s needs any advertising,” he joked.
Sue Parsons, 62, said: “I’m a bit miffed that McDonald’s is shut because I’ve just come all the way here for my lunch. This snow has made me feel nice and Christmassy though.”
Ironically, the filming prevented council workers from erecting the Christmas lights on Chapel Market. Members of the filming crew asked council staff to wait until they had finished the shoot before fixing the festive lights to the lampposts.
