A number of Essex Road residents have this week expressed their anger about rubbish collection being missed or late and an increase in fly tipping.
Rubbish has been spotted on at least eight corners along Essex Road, according to photographs taken by local resident Carol Tuckfield earlier on this week.
Tuckfield and other residents have become worried that rubbish is being left out on the street for long periods of time. Tuckfield said this will “attract foxes and rats”, as well as being an “eyesore”.
Tuckfield and resident Jacky Winn have criticised Islington council for being too focused on implementing “traffic cameras and cycle lanes” when it should instead be focusing on “fixing essential services”, and the quality of “rubbish collection services”.
While the discussion of Islington Council’s rubbish management is a hot topic of debate on neighbourhood forums, local resident Claire Clark-Dearing explained that it is easy to report these issues. By downloading the ‘Clean Islington’ app, Clark-Dearing was able to report a local case of fly-tipping, which was subsequently cleared the next day.
