Islington Police tweeted: “6 men were arrested inside the Emirates stadium at about 7.30pm for the suspected theft of ?Arsenal club property.”

Some Arsenal supporters saw a funny side, tweeting: “@FinnAFC can’t have stolen much #eplbantz #banterbus #banterLAD”; while Holloway Road’s Piebury Corner, which had its own experience of vandalism last month, tweeted its support using the hashtag “#trophypiejack”.

The investigation continues.
