The global charity Oxfam came to Islington on Saturday with its month long music festival Oxjam, centred on Upper Street, and raised over £14,000.
While the event took place at venues nationwide, the Islington organisers were keen to give it a local feel. Barry Causton, Oxjam Islington takeover manager, said the organisers recruited “as many local artists as possible”.
He has good reason to call this year’s festival “the best yet” with £8,000 raised on the night, and a further £6,000 from related events.
Artist Akayzia is a prime example of the local support Oxjam Islington has found. The festival is in its third year in Islington and she has performed at each one. She said how thankful she was they let her play “because I was terrible when I first started”.
