A Finsbury Park charity which restores used electricals for re-sale has gathered a huge stockpile of heaters ready for winter.
Bright Sparks collects used electrical goods and furniture which it then sells on at cheap prices from its shop on Seven Sisters Road.
Most of the heaters were donated in spring and summer.
O’Neill Howell, workshop manager since the charity was founded in 2010, told Islington Now: “We work on a seasonal cycle. Very soon people will start donating fans and by Christmas people will be giving us lawnmowers.
“We’ll restore them and keep them in the warehouse for next summer.”
Affordability is at the forefront of the project, with the most basic heaters beginning at £8.
Connor Lincoln, 19, a volunteer with the project for four months, said: “People can still have some luxury and a better way of life without the expense.
“Everyone should be able to live a nice lifestyle with nice things.”
Bright Sparks’ work was recently recognised nationally; it reached the final three in the “Best Partnership” category at the Local Advisory Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) celebration awards for its partnership with Islington Council, which part-funds the project.
Despite not winning, Mr Howell says the future is bright: “Our main goal is to get another warehouse up and running. It would be great to have one in south London.”
