‘It’s time to move on’: the selling of the Old Red Lion Theatre pub

Islington’s famous Old Red Lion pub and theatre has been run for the past 24 years by Damien Devine and his family, including his daughters and nieces. But he says it’s time to move on.

Old Red Lion pub has recently gone on the market for £450,000. He said there has been a strong interest from sectors in the pub. He is “confident that it will remain as a theatre” after it is sold.  

“It’s in our blood and we would really love it to be maintained.” 

It is rumoured that the pub has been on the site since 1415, and the space was converted into a theatre in 1979.  

The pub has hosted many award-winning productions, including Arthur Miller’s No Villain.
