An NGO has launched a critical Project which will bring fresh job opportunities to Islington. Data from Islington council reveals only 38% of Bunhill residents have full time jobs and over 130 young people aged 16-24 were recorded as unemployed.
Educating Beyond Borders has launched its Social Justice Project at Central Library on 25 November.
EBB founded in 2013 in London, helps university students during and after their studies, providing an international system of study, work experience and training. It aims to provide employment opportunities for young people in Islington, particularly in the Bunhill ward.
Rox Green, the Director of Student at EBB, said: “We’ve been doing it on a smaller scale for the last three to five years. Within 12 to 18 months of doing this, some changes start happening with people getting more work experience.”
Green also pointed out prejudice and bias within the education system, affects black students, and international students.
“So, what we’re launching today is that this project starts bringing about some change to this problem in education, and we’re going to start by connecting people with the education tools and resources they need,” she added.
EBB has already contacted Islington Council for feedback and looking forward to starting a partnership with Black Lives Matter and Stand Up to Racism in the next few months.
