An established florist owner opens Thai restaurant on Caledonian road to give “warmth and friendliness” to locals.
Supawan opened its doors last night is test out its “fresh” menu, before it opens later this month on 20 October. The soft launch offered an eclectic range of “authentic” Thai inspired food, creating a huge buzz as the restaurant quickly filled.
Owned by enigmatic Wichet Khongpoon, who also runs the bustling florist, Alforum, next door, Supawan is an example of Caledonian Road’s diverse and thriving independent restaurant scene.
Speaking to Islington Now, Mr Khongpoon said, “I cook for friends, I don’t treat the customer as the customer, I like to cook what I like to eat. I want the spirit of the food to represent warmth and friendliness.”
Long-time friend to Mr Khongpoon, Liza Recker-Lewison said: “super yummy Thai! Looks beautiful too”.
Supawan will be hosting a variety of pop-up events this month, in the run up to its official opening on the 20th of October.
