A weekly shop nearly turned violent on Monday night, as one man was so upset by the new plastic bag charge that he threatened to set his dog on staff.
While most shoppers have managed to stay strong in the face of the new 5p charge for plastic bags, one man in a Canonbury Sainsbury’s was apparently so angered that he threatened to set his dog on staff members trying to enforce the new law.
One staff member, Danielle Molliere, said “He collected his dog from outside, bringing it in and threatened to set it on staff. He demanded to know my name and kept repeating, ‘I am a customer. I am a customer.’”
“It was strange because the items he was buying were quite pricey, so it’s not like 5p was that much more.”
Luckily, this extreme reaction appears to be relatively rare. Duty manager Shahin Pavel said “A lot of people were caught out when the law changed, but after we explained it wasn’t just Sainsbury’s, they were generally alright about it.”
