Edward Lear enthusiasts have set sail for the Little Angel Theatre, after the puppet theatre premiered an adaptation of The Owl and the Pussycat.
The renowned venue launched a poetry programme on 27 September, headlined by an adaptation of Lear’s nonsense poem, written by Julia Donaldson, the creator of The Gruffalo.
The Further Adventures of the Owl and the Pussy-cat will run until 17 November, and features handmade puppets, original music and nonsensical poetry, inspired by the work of the Islington-born poet.
Sophie Waddy, Marketing and Communications Manager at the Theatre, said, “It was a good opportunity to have a local connection through the performance.”
Little Angel Theatre has been a local family favourite since its foundation in 1961. Every year, it welcomes over 50,000 visitors to its 12 annual productions.
The theatre is also midway through a production of The Dong with A Luminous Nose, another of Lear’s nonsense poems, which is aimed at young audiences aged 7-15.
Visitors to the theatre are encouraged to bring plenty of money but no honey: food is not permitted inside the auditorium.
