A local community group is campaigning against Arsenal’s proposal to increase the number of concerts held at the Emirates Stadium.
The Highbury Community Association (HCA) sent Arsenal a letter of protest, that said: “What we object to is the loss of another six precious summertime weekend and bank holiday days when we should be enjoying our own homes in peace and quiet.”
Arsenal are attempting to increase the number of summer concerts from three, which is allowed by planning permission, to nine.
The HCA’s letter explained: “We accept an awful lot from the club the rest of the year with little complaint, from litter and rowdiness to rows of illegally parked cars in our streets with false or borrowed disability badges displayed.”
Founding HCA member Gill Shepherd said: “Arsenal were only going to have one concert a year, then it went to three, now they want it to go to nine.
“They have failed to meet many of the commitments they originally made. There is little goodwill left among the residents when they ask us to give up yet more for them.”
Arsenal’s PR firm Quatro Consults said residents’ opinions will be taken into account when applying to Islington council for planning permission. The HCA are waiting for the planning application to go through to the council, before preparing a case.
