An independent tea store in Angel raised money for charity by baking matcha tea cakes on 30 October.
Revitalise Charity arranges holidays for disabled people and their carers.
“We share our recipes with the locals who can come and enjoy a cake baked with matcha,” Rihanna Brown, the tea mixologist at Bird & Blend Tea Co. said.
The charity event was organised to coincide with The Great British Bake Off final celebration to join in the spirit of cake baking.
“All donated money will be going to charity, and we hope to collect between £30-£50 for the day,” Gina Smith, the trainee manager at Bird & Blend Tea Co. said.
The event did not bring in many people, but Smith thinks it’s because it was held on a weekday and their lack of advertising.
Bird & Blend Tea Co., however, have not been swayed, and are planning to hold future events despite the small amount of money collected.
“This is the first event we have organised, and unfortunately it was a quiet day; therefore we are organising our next charity event on a weekend around the beginning of December to celebrate our Christmas teas!” Smith said.
