A campaign has been launched to make Advent Giving boxes for vulnerable locals by The Arc Center Foodbank, located in St. Peter’s, Islington,
According to the foodbank, this winter more and more people are struggling to buy the basics.
The Arc Foodbank has found a novel way for people to help someone in their neighbourhood. Community organisers are encouraging locals to donate throughout the festive period by putting essentials in a cardboard box each day throughout December.
The Foodbank provides daily guidance on social media suggesting which items can be donated — from pasta, tinned fruits and vegs, tea and coffee to shampoos and moisturisers, nappies, warm socks and, of course, chocolates. These Advent boxes will later find their recipients — those who need it the most in those uncertain times.
The Arc Foodbank was set up in April to support local communities, and they say that their services are now greatly over-subscribed. At the beginning of November, the Arc Foodbank received £1,000 from Leyland, a local hardware company, and plans to spend the money on the renovation of its headquarters in Prebend Street.
