An abandoned stuffed dinosaur has become the subject of a social media frenzy as a local Wetherspoons pub is desperate to locate its true owner.
Wetherspoons staff have been taking the stuffed toy to various venues and sharing photos on social media, in an attempt to reach out to the dinosaur’s owner.
The stuffed animal, dubbed Alfred on Twitter, was left at The White Swan in Islington on the 15 February. For the past two weeks, the Wetherspoons Table App Twitter account, which has more than 900 followers, has been sharing posts with the hashtag #GetAlfredHome with a photo of the stuffed animal. One tweet published on the 27 February has gained nearly 100 likes and 129 retweets.
It reads: “It is with great distress that we report a much upsetting story. Last week poor little Alfred was left and lost at White Swan Islington. Can I ask all the wetherspoons superb customers to share this tweet, let’s get this little lad back home! #GetAlfredHome.”
To give further encouragement, the account added that “If everyone who reads this just gives it a retweet we might just save a life.”
Alfred has even attracted international attention, with one account from New York City retweeting with the comment: “We have to help him find his way home! I don’t live in the UK, but some of my friends do! Good luck little dino! #GetAlfredHome.”

A separate account has been created for Alfred (@GetAlfredHome). The account’s pinned tweet has attracted over a thousand retweets, reading: “Hi, I was found alone in a pub in London on Saturday 15th Feb and I miss my family…I’m sure they’re missing me too…please RT to help me get home to my family. I’ve had a few adventures but I’m now ready to go home. Thanks, Alf.”
Comments are calling for support to reunite Alfred with his owner.
User Alison Harrowell commented: “@BBCBreakfast @GMB Can you help please? Somebody must be missing him.”
