St George’s Tufnell Park church is hosting poverty charity Tearfund’s annual Big Quiz Night this Saturday.
Tearfund, a Christian charity, working in over 50 countries to aid those in need.
The Big Quiz Night uses churches such as St George’s as a network to reach potential donors through what they call a “brilliant evening of poverty-fighting fun”. Last year’s quiz raised £250,000 with the help of 562 churches across the country.
Stephen Mawhinney, Children’s and Community Worker at St George’s, explained how “Tearfund organises it each year providing questions…we [the churches who host] organise our own with their resources”.
“We each make a donation to Tearfund for participating.”
St George and All Saints JustGiving page is live, with Mawhinney stating that “any fundraising is a bonus”.
When asked why the church chose to support Tearfund, priest-in-charge, Reverend Alexandra Lilley, said: “They have a Christian ethos, which means that they have a holistic approach that seeks the good of a whole person and whole communities…it’s not just a sticking plaster response to poverty.”
The Big Quiz Night will be held online on Saturday 14 November at 8pm.
