Spring is right around the corner. As the weather warms up and flowers begin to bloom, here’s a list of pubs in Islington with beer gardens where you can get a cold pint.
The Shakespeare’s Head
The Shakespeare’s Head is a quaint little pub located in Arlington Way with a rich history related to the nearby Sadler’s Wells Theatre. A time capsule of pictures and a classically decorated pub interior, the garden is a highlight hidden in the back adorned with fairy lights and marquees. What is more impressive is the price of a lager, which at £5.20 is now very much a rarity.
The Alwyne Castle
The Alwyne Castle on St Paul’s Road is located within walking distance of Canonbury Overground Station. The pub boasts a large garden with many tables, as well as a bar outside, meaning you don’t even have to enter the pub to get yourself a pint.

The Castle, located minutes from Angel Underground Station, is a secret treasure. As spring comes around, where better to enjoy a pint than on its roof terrace, surrounded by fairy lights and flowers. Every Monday evening, from 4pm to 11pm, the pub runs a community games night on the terrace – enjoy a burger, a pint, and a bit of Jenga!
The Narrowboat
Located on the canal on St Peter’s Street, the Narrowboat has wonderful views of the water on a sunny day. A short walk from Angel Underground Station, the pub serves a selection of craft beers and cask ales.
The Camden Head
The Camden Head is on Camden Passage, tucked away on a back street in Angel. With a traditional Victorian interior, the small beer garden at the front of the pub is perfect for live performances and comedy.
The Vineyard
Located at 179 Upper Street, The Vineyard boasts a large outdoor area with tables, lights, and heaters. The pub is within walking distance of Highbury and Islington Overground Station and, for reference, is opposite Islington Town Hall.
