Bunhill 2 Energy Centre, the first project in the world to generate energy using excess heat from an underground train system, has won an environmental prize.

Heat from London Underground tunnels will be piped into 500 Islington homes, in a pioneering £3.7m project that could extend to the rest of London. Islington Council announced that it is to expand Bunhill Heat and Power network's greener energy initiative on Friday 22 November. The initiative partially heats 700 homes around Old Street already, and has cut residents' energy prices by 10 percent.
