A controversial multi-storey development may include private leisure facilities on its grounds. Planners of the 31-storey complex on City Road have applied for permission to add a swimming pool, cinema and gym to the multi-million pound development, although construction has already begun.

The complex will include 240 luxury apartments and 100 affordable homes but it is unclear whether the services will be available to the local community.

Local resident Richard Parkin, 23, said he was uncomfortable about the plans.

“This building towers over us already and now they are going to have all this stuff that we might not be able to access. It seems a bit unfair,” he said.
