NAPOLI football fans have pledged to raise money for repairs to an Islington pie shop attacked by its supporters.
Fans of the Italian football club condemned the attack by 100 supporters on the Piebury Corner cafe on Holloway Road after their club lost to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium two weeks ago.
Piebury Corner Manager, Julie McKenna said she knew it was only “a few thugs” behind the violence, and called the majority of Napoli fans “decent”. She described how she had been “overwhelmed” by Italian fans coming into the shop to apologise after it reopened on Tuesday.
The shop, which has strong links to the Arsenal team, said the support they had also received from the local community as well was as Napoli fans was incredible. “It’s nice, it brings back the old neighbourly spirit,” Ms McKenna said.
The Napoli fan club in London was unable to be reached for comment but released a statement on their official Facebook page after the attack. It said: “We hope those who committed the cowardly attack to the Piebury Corner shop will be punished, no matter if English or Neapolitan.”
42 year old Jason Philpott, will appear at Blackfriars Crown Court charged with GBH and violent disorder, after a customer was hit over the head with a metal stool. The police investigation is continuing.
