The owner of an Essex Road off license has been jailed for faking her own death and making £2m of life insurance claims.
Rozeena Butt, 39, owner of Billa Wines, took out the insurance and then claimed she died of dehydration during a trip to Pakistan.
She was assisted in her false claim by her husband, Mohammed, 45, a trainee Met police constable, and her niece, Nosheen Chugtai, 32.
Butt was jailed for 25 months after admitting to three counts of fraud at Southwark Crown Court. Her husband received an 18-month sentence and Chugtai a 51-week term suspended for two years.
Detective Inspector Dave Manley, of City of London Police, said: “They tried to take money which they weren’t entitled to. Instead they got only a trip to the courtroom and a guilty verdict.”
