A police sergeant has hit out at Cannabis dealers after a rise in drug crime and antisocial behaviour has been reported off Essex Road.
Sgt Adam Instone targeted drug dealers, announcing: “We’d like to make an environment in Canonbury where it’s more hostile to deal in.”
The comments come after a 26-year-old man from Barnet was arrested last week for possession with intent to supply in Canonbury Villas, following complaints of anti-social behaviour from the public.
In a Canonbury Ward partnership meeting last Wednesday, one concerned resident who did not wish to be named said: “They’ve been going around keeping us awake at night, lighting fires and flares. We don’t feel safe.”
In response, Sgt Instone added: “We will work with the council and CCTV for better lighting” and promised to increase immediate police response time.
This comes after 40 drug related arrests were made in Islington last month.
Sgt Instone urged all residents to continue to report any crimes in the area.
