The festive season is fast approaching, so it’s time for Islington to get the tinsel out and turn on the sparkling Christmas lights. This year there’s plenty of choice in the borough to see the lights turned on and we’ve got a run-down of the best events in the weeks ahead.
Chapel Market and Angel
The Christmas lights in Angel will be extra festive this year with a new stretch of illuminations down Camden Passage and 40 trees lit up along Upper Street. The Avenue of Lights runs from Angel Tube to Islington Town Hall, and you can watch them being switched on this Saturday at Angel Central. Say hello to Santa, gorge on mince pies and sip on mulled wine while street performers provide the entertainment.

Whitecross Street
Get your gloves and scarves ready and head to the dazzling Christmas light switch-on at Whitecross Street. Sing along to festive choir tunes and treat yourself to free mince pies, cupcakes and other market goodies. Santa, his elves and children’s poetry storyteller Paul Lyalls will also make a special appearance.

Holloway
Head to the Nag’s Head Shopping Centre on Saturday 2 December to listen to carols sung by choirs from Grafton Primary School and Holloway SDA church. Selby’s department store will also be giving away prizes, beauty makeovers and food tastings.
