The Highbury Fields Association faced questions about park storage for children’s toys at its Annual General Meeting on Monday night.
Fiona Costa, of Baalbec Road beside the Fields, asked why plans to place a small shed for toys beside the Oasis Café were being opposed by the association. She said: “It would be very helpful and these days you don’t need an ugly structure. The toys will be kept outside during the winter and they’ll be badly damaged and worn by the spring.”
The toys have been provided by the parents of children who attend the 2 O’Clock Club, an activities group for under fives. They have received permission from Islington Council to place a storage box on the Fields hidden beside the café.
Martin Jones, Chairman of the Association, said: “I thought it wasn’t a bad idea but the committee said no. They said it would be ugly and placed on a key site on the Fields.”
The council had planned to paint the box dark green so it would be less noticeable. The issue has been exacerbated by plans to place a larger shed for storing tools beside it. This is due to the demolition of a garage at the north of the park.

I am so excited about this E Zine! I am a new quilter and was impressed with the tutorials they already have up and going. I would love to see some information on modern color trends, color theory and fabric mixing/choices and incorporating vintage fabrics/re-purposed fabrics (clothing etc.) into modern quilts.
