Parents and teachers at Tufnell Park Primary School are halfway to their fundraising goal for improving the school’s library.
The school’s Parent Teacher Association started an online campaign earlier this month to raise £1,500 to transform the school’s Morris Library into a lending library and revitalise the space.
John Young, co-chair of the school’s PTA, said he feels hopeful about the “final push.”
“It’s a beautiful little library,” said Young. “The children love it. It’s definitely a used resource. Making it even better is just a good thing.”
The school intends to use any money raised to introduce a library management software allowing children to take books home. Teachers and parents also want to increase the book stock and add in some new shelves and soft furnishings.
The response from the school community has been “very inspirational and heartwarming”, Young said.
“A lot of people are cheering us on,” he said. “We also have parents saying, ‘Yes, I’ll give up some time to enter the books into the library system, or tidy up certain areas of the library.’ So we are also getting parents volunteering time, which is great as well, and really needed.”
