Students at London Metropolitan University are frustrated by tuition fee hikes. This academic year tuition fees saw a 3.1 per cent increase from £9250 to £9535.
A third-year accounting and finance student, who asked not to be named, said she was shocked by the latest announcement. “My sister just started university and she’s going to have to pay the next upcoming fees if it changes in the next two years. I’m sure it’s going to increase again next year and then the year after as well so it’s not looking good,” she said.
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson announced in the House of Commons that there will be tuition fees increase for home students in line with forecast inflation during the 2026/27 and 2027/28 academic years. Maintenance loans will also see an increase in line with inflation.
Daniella Dogbe, a third year Journalism student expressed frustration at the government’s announcement. “I find it really stupid because why does it need to increase if the facilities aren’t improving?”
Some want fees to be abolished like their Scottish peers, who attend university for free.
“I think for sure university should be free. I don’t think that we should be charged at all,” Daniella said.
