A new fishmonger-cum-seafood restaurant has beaten every Michelin starred establishment in the capital to reach the number two spot on tripadvisor.
Prawn on the Lawn, which opened last summer on St Paul’s Road, has received rave reviews – and is now ranked as the second best place to dine in London out of 16,371 restaurants.
It has knocked Michel Roux Jr’s Le Gavroche – the first in the UK to be awarded three Michelin stars – into third place.
Other eateries trailing behind the Islington fishmonger include Gordon Ramsay’s French restaurant Petrus and The Foyer at exclusive hotel Claridge’s.
Owner of Prawn on the Lawn Rich Toogood said that he is “absolutely chuffed and blown away” by the kind words people have written after eating at his restaurant.
He puts his success down to the quirky dining concept.
He said: “People are essentially dining in a fishmongers, which is a fairly unique concept.
“I’m just absolutely chuffed and blown away by what people have said. I wanted to create a place where customers would feel relaxed and where the staff would enjoy working. We don’t really feel like work colleagues, it’s like one big family here.”
“It hasn’t really sunk in to be honest. It’s just fantastic that customers love being here.”
Every single customer has recommended the restaurant and all but one rated it as “excellent” – the other said it was “very good.”
