Independent businesses are part of the fabric of Islington. Local Buyer’s Club is galvanizing their status with an area guide exclusively featuring Islington’s indie establishments (big chains are barred). Compiled from community-tips, it is a bible for those looking for authenticity.
We asked three Islingtonites about their favourite independent businesses.
Jeremy
Working at magCulture on St John Street means he is in-the-know about local indie spots. His favourite? Present & Correct on Arlington Way.
“Go for beautiful old stationery and greetings cards, they also sell fantastic staplers,” he says showing us an ornate Italian model, “I always buy mine there.”
Luke
Meanwhile, Luke, 38, is a fan of Dansk Flowers on Upper Street. “They have amazing products – my favourite are the overpriced wreaths – I can’t help myself.”
Emily
Hot beverages are more of a draw for Emily, 20, than flowers or stationery. She likes hers from Goswell Road Coffee.

“I go there every day for tea and coffee. They know me by sight – although they haven’t got my name yet!”
