The Kindness Offensive is an organisation which aims to encourage random acts of kindness. Its bus is used during annual Christmas toy drives, delivering presents to 15,000 children in hospitals across the capital.
Elderly people are taken on day trips on the bus, which also visits schools and hosts street parties and fetês in Islington.
Kindness Offensive spokeswoman Joanna Bevan said: “We’re always about being kind so we wanted to be a bit kinder to the environment. We love that we’re doing something radical, new and exciting. I’ve never heard of a Routemaster that runs on veg oil.”

The vehicle nicknamed “the Kinder bus” is a classic 1965 Routemaster that has been repainted and fitted with an American diner-style interior, complete with jukebox.
The funding for the conversion came from the Morris Charitable Trust, which supports community projects in the borough.
