Lulu Guinness, the internationally acclaimed handbag designer, is to create her first ever piece of installation art for Clerkenwell Design Week. Guinness, whose quirky bags are toted by celebrities including Helena Bonham Carter, Alexa Chung and Katy Perry, plans to craft a giant pin-art installation, based on pinpoint toys that leave an impression of objects pressed into them.

Unlike the toys, which are normally only big enough to create an impression of one hand, Guinness’s structure will be big enough for visitors to imprint their entire bodies in the pins.
The designer’s move into installation art has drawn inspiration from her handbag designs, which often feature studs and pins.
Her one-off commission, entitled Be A Pin-Up, will take centre stage during May’s design fair.
Securing the designer is a major coup for Clerkenwell Design Week Fair, which is only in its second year.
The annual three-day festival showcases interior and furniture design innovations from over 50 British and international manufacturers.
This year Clerkenwell showrooms will stage exclusive product launches, talks with high profile speakers and VIP parties.
Daren Newton, Clerkenwell Design Week Founder, said: “2011 is already shaping up to be bigger and better. We’re continuing to attract not just huge amounts of interest from the design community, but also from the visiting public who seem to have an unquenchable thirst for design.”
