A councillor has decided to step down after more than a decade in office.
Alice Clarke-Perry, a Labour councillor for St Peter’s ward in Islington, will leave her post in May.
In a Twitter post on 10 March, she said: “I’m so proud of everything we have achieved. I’m staying on the Labour NEC [National Executive Committee] until my term ends in September and look forward to having a few drinks at the conference and sharing some stories!”
In response to Clarke-Perry’s twitter post, Karen Shore, a Labour councillor in Chester tweeted: “You were an inspiration to me and to so many women/mothers wondering how to juggle work/life balance as a councillor.”
Former Islington Mayor David Poyser tweeted: “You always made councillors feel good about themselves and despite now being a ‘national’ star you’re a totally normal human being.”
Clarke-Perry is the representative for councillors on Labour’s National Executive Committee, the governing body of the party. She is also Deputy Whip of the Local Government Association Labour Group and is a member of the Local Government Association Culture, Tourism and Sports Board.
